**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
Tabor City, NC – August 24, 2023 – The Town of Tabor City is proud to announce the grand opening of the brand-new Tabor City School, a cutting-edge educational facility that promises to be a beacon of learning and community development. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on Thursday afternoon, was a jubilant occasion attended by dozens of community leaders, educators, and residents, marking a significant milestone for the town and Columbus County.
“This is about providing the best possible learning environment for our students,” said Deanne Meadows, Superintendent of Columbus County Schools. “A facility like this ensures that every student has the opportunity to receive an exceptional education.”
The new Tabor City School, which will house students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, stands on the historic site of the former Tabor City High School. This $30 million project, funded in part by a $28 million investment from the USDA Rural Development, has been in the works since 2016. Despite various challenges, including soil instability and rising construction costs, the project was completed on time and under budget, thanks to the dedication of Monteith Construction Contractor and the support of the Columbus County Board of Commissioners.
Chris Worley, a member of the Columbus County Board of Education, expressed his pride in seeing the new school come to fruition. “Growing up in this area, it’s wonderful to see this level of investment in our children’s future. Our community is thriving, and this school is a testament to our commitment to education and development.”
The school boasts state-of-the-art technology, advanced security measures, energy-saving features, and health-focused designs, such as floor-to-ceiling windows for natural light and mold-preventive ceilings. Visual arts teacher Princess Grantham praised the facility, saying, “The environment is incredible. It’s going to motivate our students and give us greater opportunities to do more in this amazing new space.”
Principal Dale Norris echoed the excitement, highlighting the strong community turnout and the high levels of enthusiasm among students and staff. “We’re thankful for the building and the opportunity it presents for our students. We invite the community to be part of this exciting new chapter by visiting, volunteering, and supporting our students’ learning.”
The school will host an open house tonight, allowing students and parents to explore the new facility before classes commence on Monday. Reginald Speight, N.C. State Director for the USDA Rural Development, emphasized the long-term benefits of investing in education. “Bringing state-of-the-art facilities to our children, teachers, and parents is crucial for the future of our community.”
The Tabor City School stands as one of the finest educational institutions in the state, embodying the town’s dedication to enriching the community for years to come.
