The Golden LEAF Foundation announced the award of $175,000 in funding through the Flood Mitigation Program. This is the second award in less than 3 months. In June, Golden Leaf (www.goldenleaf.org) announced a separate award to Town of Tabor City consiting of $375k under the SITE Program. 

This latest award to the Town of Tabor City is “to install infrastructure to enclose the ditch that runs perpendicular to Hickman Road that will improve drainage to eliminate frequent and prolonged flooding that occurs in the souther part of town during heavy rain events.”

Tabor City was one of 7 projects to receive a portion of funds totaling $1.3 million from the Flood Mitigation Program. Funds were awarded to the following counties: Beaufort, Brunswick, Sampson, Perquimans, Lenoir, Granville and Columbus

The Golden LEAF Foundation is a nonprofit established in 1999 to receive a portion of North Carolina’s funding from the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement with Cigarette manufacturers and has since worked for over 20 years to increase economic opportunity in North Carolina’s rural and tobacco-dependent communities.
